Lawn Care and Snow Removal

Yard Cleanup in Nelsonville

Spring and fall cleanups, leaf removal and overgrown property reclaimed, with the debris hauled off on our own trailer.

The Work

What Counts as a Yard Cleanup?

Anything that has to come off the property and leave with us. Mowing deals with grass that is growing on a rhythm. A cleanup deals with volume: leaves, brush, limbs, dead growth in the beds, the pile behind the garage that has been there since last year, and grass that has gone far enough that cutting it is only the first step.

That distinction matters for the quote, because cleanup is priced by what is actually there and how long it takes to remove, not by the size of the lawn. It also matters for the schedule, since a cleanup is usually a one time visit that puts a property back to a state where regular maintenance makes sense.

Spring

What Does a Spring Cleanup Cover?

Spring cleanup is about clearing winter off the property so the growing season starts clean rather than fighting through what is left.

  • Leaves that blew in over winter or got missed in the fall, out of the lawn and the beds
  • Dead growth and last year's perennials cut back
  • Limbs and sticks down from winter storms, picked up and hauled
  • Beds weeded and the edges recut where they have blurred
  • Gravel and road salt debris raked back off the turf along the drive
  • The first cut, once the lawn is clear enough to take one

For most properties this is the visit that makes everything after it easy. If the beds are getting redone in the same season, Mulch Installation follows the cleanup rather than going on top of it.

Fall

What Does a Fall Leaf Cleanup Cover?

Leaves left on a lawn over winter mat down under the snow, block light and air, and leave dead patches to deal with in the spring. In this part of Ohio, with woods backing onto a lot of properties, the volume is real.

  • Leaves cleared off the lawn, not mulched into it when the load is heavy
  • Beds, foundations and fence lines cleared where leaves pack in
  • Corners, window wells and the spots along the house where drifts collect
  • Everything loaded and hauled off rather than piled at the curb
  • A final cut going into winter, cut slightly lower than the summer height

Heavy leaf years sometimes take more than one pass. We would rather tell you that up front than do one visit and leave you with half a problem.

Overgrown Property

Will You Take On a Badly Overgrown Property?

Yes, and it is a normal call for us rather than an awkward one. Properties get away from people. Somebody is ill, a rental sits empty between tenants, a place is being cleared for sale, or a season just got ahead of everybody. We quote those and we take them.

What we want is to look at it in person, because photos never show how deep it goes. Under tall grass there are usually stumps, blocks, wire, old fence and things nobody remembers being there, and that is what sets both the price and the equipment. Expect it to take more than one pass, and expect the property to look worse halfway through than it did at the start. Afterward it goes on a regular schedule and stays manageable.

Haul Off

Where Does the Debris Go?

Onto our trailer and off your property. We run our own truck and dump trailer, which is the reason we can take the big cleanups at all, and it means you are not left with a brush pile at the curb waiting on a pickup that may or may not take it.

If you would rather keep something, say so before we start. Some people want the limbs stacked for firewood or the leaves left in a compost corner, and that is easy to do if we know in advance. It is much harder once it is already on the trailer.

Quoting

How Is a Cleanup Quoted?

After we walk it. A cleanup is the one service where an estimate over the phone is close to useless, because the number is driven by volume and access rather than by acreage.

Two yards the same size can be a two hour job and a two day job, depending on whether the debris can be driven to or has to be carried out, whether there is a gate we can get a trailer through, and how much is actually under there. So we come look, we tell you what we see, and you get a number for the work in front of us rather than a range that moves once we start.

Common Questions

Yard Cleanup FAQ

When should a fall cleanup be scheduled?

After most of the leaves are down but before the first hard snow, which in this part of Ohio usually means late in the fall. Going too early means doing it twice. Waiting until the leaves are wet and frozen into the turf makes it a harder and more expensive job.

Can you clean up after a storm?

Yes. Limbs down, debris across the yard and the mess a wind event leaves behind are all normal cleanup work. Anything that needs a climber or involves a tree against a structure is outside what we take on, and we will tell you that rather than attempt it.

Do I have to be there for the cleanup?

Not for the work itself, but it helps to walk the property with us once at the quote so you can point out what stays and what goes. After that we can work the property whether you are home or not.

Can you clean out the beds too, not just the lawn?

Yes, and on most properties the beds are where the real work is. Weeding, cutting back dead growth and recutting the bed edge are all part of it, and if you want the beds finished afterward that is Mulch Installation.
