Athens is the county seat and the biggest town we serve, and the property mix there is unlike anywhere else on our route. A large share of the housing is rental, much of it owned by people who do not live on the property and in some cases do not live in the county, which means the grounds only get handled if somebody is paid to handle them. Add the commercial corridors, the churches, the offices and the apartment properties, and there is a lot of ground that has to stay presentable without an owner walking it every week. The terrain does not help. Athens is built across hills and river bottom, so steep yards, retaining walls and driveways that climb hard off the street are common, and all three are harder to maintain than flat ground.
